RTM Engineering Consultants has published a whitepaper titled, “Understanding the Impact of IECC Updates on Lighting Controls.”
“This publication underscores the progress being made toward conservation of energy,” stated Aaron Burch, associate at RTM. “The 2012 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) increases energy efficiency markedly from the previous years’ versions – and it is important to note, that nearly half of the states have adopted the 2012 IECC, so it is here to stay.”
To promote energy conservation, the International Code Council (ICC) has developed standards to encourage efficient design and installation of building envelopes and mechanical, lighting, and power systems.
Those standards will vary depending on where the project is located since the code is implemented on a state and/or local level.
The whitepaper identifies options to ensure lighting design meets code requirements including occupancy and vacancy sensors, timer panels and daylighting.
