The culture of our firm is fundamental to who we are and what we do. Throughout this series of posts, we will delve deeper into RTM’s corporate culture through exclusive interviews with CEO Tony Mirchandani. We will explore what core values drive us, what we do that sets us apart, and how it all comes together to benefit our clients.
The focus of this first post is RTM’s commitment to being proactive in consultation.
Q: What is RTM’s typical consultation process with a new client? What research do you do?
A: It’s really critical to be working with the right client and putting the right team members on that account. For instance, geographic requirements are something to look at. Plus personality, the level of complexity, the speed of projects, the particular market vertical. For a hospital project with a new client, we wouldn’t want to match them with one of our high-volume retail roll-out teams.
During the initial consultation process, we’re not learning about only the value drivers for the client and the facilities that they’re building. It’s just as much about the personality of the client and listening and learning about what they need to be successful – then asking ourselves if this client and project are a good fit with our core values.
Q: How do you find the right clients?
A: In a nutshell, if clients are in the business of design or the business of construction, we’re interested in working with them. We don’t necessarily look for clients that are big or small, or in one geographic region, or in one vertical market.
We look for clients that want to have a professional engineering firm as their strategic partner, as a required asset to their team. We look for a situation where we can create the most value. If we’re not able to create 10 times the value that we’re getting paid for, we’re not doing our jobs properly.
The clients that we work with, we’ll go to bat for. Our team members will come in on a Saturday or a Sunday on their own volition, just to take care of their clients. This is only one way we take care of them as partners, just as they would for us.
