RTM Engineering Consultants (RTM) is providing MEP/FP design for Brookside Care Center located in Kenosha, Wis. The project includes new construction of a rehabilitation center and a community-based residential facility (CBRF) along with the renovation of existing skilled nursing facility (SNF) units.
The 36,000-square-foot, two-story rehabilitation center will include 48 units and common spaces. The center will be connected to the existing building at the end of the SNF residential wing. In addition, the 18,000-square-foot, one-story CBRF will be connected to the new rehabilitation center and will be a slab-on-grade building that contains 24 residential units.
The renovation of the 68,000-square-foot SNF includes 106 units arranged along six residential wings that radiate from the central building core – containing related common and administrative spaces.
The project will feature six serving kitchens designed in a household concept located throughout the three buildings. The scope of work also includes capital improvement updates to themechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
For the project, RTM is leveraging its extensive experience working with a variety of building information modeling (BIM) software and technology, including Revit and Navisworks. The team also is including environmental design considerations such as LED lighting, reduced lighting power density, and automatic lighting controls.
Brookside Care Center will be open throughout the renovation; therefore, RTM worked closely with administrators early on in the process to review each phase of construction and evaluate how it may affect daily operations. The two teams collaborated to mitigate any disruption to hospital operations and/or patient care.
The project is set to be completed in 2018.
