RTM Engineering Consultants provided civil engineering services for a mixed-use development in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood known as ‘The Fields’. The 1.4 million-square-foot former Marshall Field’s warehouse is being renovated to include over 200,000 square feet of retail amenities, up to 450,000 square feet of office space, industrial warehouse space, and 700 indoor parking stalls. The one-of-a-kind development features more outdoor space than any other project in Metro Chicago, including rooftop terraces, dog runs, and indoor/outdoor event space.
RTM leveraged civil engineering expertise to work on varying parts of the project including parking lots, roadway improvements, and adding traffic signals and ramps into the development.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and project developers recently broke ground on the Retail at the Fields portion of the development, and DNA info Chicago covered the day’s events. Anchored by a Ross Dress for Less store, the Retail at The Fields is expected to create more than 1,000 jobs for the city.
“Just a couple years ago, this lot [and] that building were empty,” Emanuel said to the publication. “We’re now seeing investments in our neighborhoods that are thriving, creating the opportunity for developers to have the confidence to do something in an area that used to be just empty, sitting idle.”
