WINSTON-SALEM & CHARLOTTE, NC

RTM provided engineering and design of the MEP/FP systems for the renovation and consolidation of Krispy Kreme Headquarters in Winston-Salem, NC and the build-out of new space in Charlotte, NC. Each location has a full retail space installed within, including all equipment for training and R&D for the longtime donut chain.

Renovation of the global headquarters in Winston-Salem was to create new work space that reflects Krispy Kreme’s vision, including new offices in Charlotte. Scope included full gut and remodel of 26,488 square feet over four floors. RTM was able to utilize the existing AHU system and redesign the ductwork layout for VAV zoning.

In addition, RTM provided engineering and design for the build-out of 26,766 square feet in Charlotte to relocate corporate operations for the donut company. Mechanical scope included the replacement of 12 RTUs. The existing roof structure was set up with single-zone rooftop units and RTM was proactive and replaced all of the units with new as they were in the last 20% of their predicted life expectancy. Electrical design included new service with main distribution so there is one central electrical room. Sprinklers and fire alarms were reused and modified to accommodate the new space plan. One challenge with this location was the existing structure would not allow for a more energy efficient design without major costs. This kept the HVAC system more simple, but not as energy efficient as the client initially hoped for. In addition to new offices, this location has a test kitchen open as a retail concept.
