LEED Design

As environmental concerns shape and change the way we build, RTM has actively endorsed energy and water efficient strategies where practical and beneficial. With LEED engineering on staff and LEED principles as a standard operating procedure, RTM is well equipped to handle all green building needs.

Notable LEED Projects

JCPenney – Fairview, TX

RTM AssociatesJCPenney opened its first registered LEED certification store in Fairview, Texas in July 2009. Based on its design, the store is expected to use 22 percent less energy and 41 percent less water than the average similar building. Beyond JCPenney’s standard new-store design features such as a reflective white roof and energy-efficient lighting, additional features expected to contribute to reducing the store’s environmental impact include landscape materials selected to reduce irrigation needs by 51 percent; plumbing fixtures that reduce building water consumption by 41 percent; and an Energy Management System that allows remote monitoring and control of HVAC and lighting systems.

Rexam – Chicago, IL

RTM AssociatesRexam’s Chicago Triangle Plaza office space achieved the LEED Silver certification in 2012. Rexam’s space occupied the eighth floor out of a total of 14 floors in an existing non-certified building. The achievement came through the use of high efficient lighting design and control, as well as low flow plumbing fixtures, and the use of recycled and local materials.

Aunt Martha’s Health Centers – Joliet, IL & Chicago Heights, IL

RTM AssociatesRTM provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering services in the design of two new community healthcare centers. The centers encompassed a wide variety of spaces including examination and triage rooms, fitness workout areas, technical centers, nutrition offices, a dental suite and support staff areas.  RTM’s site design was in support of LEED Gold Certification, with sustainable features including LEED site lighting, wind turbines, solar water heating and geothermal heat pumps.

Woodlawn Center South & North – Chicago, IL

RTM AssociatesChicago based low-income housing projects Woodlawn Center South and North were new ground up construction that utilized high efficient envelope design with, lighting control, high efficient HVAC, low flow plumbing fixtures, and fixed plate heat exchangers in order to achieve LEED Platinum certification (pending in 2014).
