When an internal team works well together, that can easily translate into smooth interactions with clients as well. At RTM, teamwork is highly valued, both internally and externally, to keep employees and clients satisfied with the work being done.
In addition to providing a variety of internal team building events that range from packing food for charities to group volleyball games, RTM’s unique approach to internal teamwork between employees is harnessed through the signature studio method.
What is the studio method?
RTM puts together a studio of engineers who serve clients based on the specific skills of the studio. For example, studios with extensive healthcare expertise work with clients in that market sector, and those that excel in roll outs collaborate with clients who have that need. Locality also plays a role. Local Chicago studios often handle much of the work in the city because they’ve built long-standing relationships with Chicago clients and are familiar with the codes and requirements.
Each studio provides a collaborative effort throughout the lifespan of a project from start to finish. This allows the client to get a solid sense of the team as well as familiarity with each studio member and what to expect. Additionally, the studio method streamlines the process because a team that works well together is already set in place.
Internal studios don’t experience much change, which allows each team member to really get to know each other’s strengths as engineers and how each other works. The studios are led most often by co-chairs with one chair whose strength is in mechanical and plumbing engineering and the other whose strength is in electrical engineering. For smaller studios, there may be a singular chair leading the group.
The client benefit of the studio method
Not only does the studio method encourage strong teamwork internally at RTM, but it provides many external benefits for the clients RTM serves. Each studio takes a proactive approach from the first kick off meeting to ask any questions in order to better understand the client’s needs.
The most important benefit of RTM’s studio method and approach to teamwork is the constant communication between the team and the client. RTM becomes an extension of the client, so he or she feels comfortable picking up the phone or sending a quick email anytime a question or concern arises.
In this way, the studio method fosters an environment where strong relationships are built and maintained. The regular stream on communication and providing the same team for each new project provides the client with a necessary level of comfort and confidence in what will be produced.
