Safety is always a concern in MEP engineering, but perhaps nowhere more so than in industrial facilities. In this video, two of our Principals, Doug Brewer and Tim Larson, explain the specific safety precautions an MEP firm must take when approaching an industrial project.
When designing an industrial facility, areas must be well lit to avoid tripping hazards and care should be taken in the placement of equipment so as to not get in the way of operations. The equipment should be separated so that the utilities don’t interfere with worker mobility and so the equipment can be easily accessible.
In addition to designing MEP systems for new or renovated industrial spaces, RTM conducts arc flash studies and electrical safety training for staff at existing facilities. RTM takes the time to review the arc flash labels and requirements of personal protective equipment (PPE) and provides recommendations for troubleshooting and maintaining the electrical equipment. We also train the staff on site—whether it’s first, second, or third shift—to promote electrical safety in the industrial workspace.
